The main purpose of any expository essay is to explain something to its audience. A good expository essay is the one that is comprehensively clear to its reader.
 
For example, if you are writing a terrorism essay, you have to clarify what the term “terrorism” means and mention the most commonly-known manifestations of terrorism. Besides, your expository essay on terrorism should be well-supplied with good examples.
 
Now let us move on to the main stages of writing expository essays:

• Developing a topic. If you are not given a topic for your expository essay, identify the subject that you are interested in. You may refer to your Professor’s lectures, your text book, your hobby that relates to the subject, etc. At this stage of an expository essay writing, you will also have to state your thesis statement, your objectives in one or two sentences;
• Researching. No doubts that expository essays need deep and thorough research. So, first develop your timeline, then start gathering information. Make a list of the sources and develop your research strategies;
• Pre-writing. Pre-writing stage will help you make your paper more organized. At this stage of your work on an expository essay, you need to think over the keywords you will be using and the structure of your expository essay;

• Drafting and writing. The writing stage requires proper interpretation of your research data into your own words. Expository essays do not require any professional vocabulary or terms;
• Editing. Essay editing is a must for your expository essays.
